Father Mike Mahler goes home
I heard at Mass this morning that Father Mike Mahler died Monday. He was only 63.
Father Mahler had just been appointed to a second term as pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Ithaca. Previously, he had been a longtime chaplain at Cornell University.
I don't know the cause of death - I got the impression from the priest saying Mass this morning that Father Mahler had been ill.
I went to the Ithaca Journal and found a brief obituary.
According to the obituary, "Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced in a complete obituary. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements."
Rest in peace, Father.

It is sad that he passed away at such a young age and so unexpectedly - there's a notice in the parish's June 28 bulletin thanking people for prayers and wishes for his recovery. It sounded optimistic. I feel terrible for his friends and family.
But this also means that the diocese has unexpectedly lost a pastor and a priest. They don't have enough to go around as it is.

Father had been battling cancer.
Thanks for the info, Interstate. So maybe his death wasn't as unexpected. God be with him.
Eternal rest grant unto Father Mahler O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace!
