View from the choir

I am a Catholic layperson and Secular Franciscan with a sense of humor. After years in the back pew watching, I have moved into the choir. It's nice to see faces instead of the backs of heads. But I still maintain God has a sense of humor - and that we are created in God's image.

Papal Intentions for August

Part of the requirements for a plenary indulgence is praying for the Pope's intentions.

Pope Benedict's prayer this month are for refugees and displaced individuals.

The Apostleship of Prayer that the general intention chosen by the Pope is, "That public opinion may be more aware of the problems of millions of displaced persons and refugees, and that concrete solutions may be found for their often tragic situation.

The Pope also chooses an apostolic intention each month. The Apostleship says that in August he is praying, "That those Christians who are discriminated against and persecuted in many countries because of the name of Christ may have their human rights, equality and religious freedom recognized, in order to be able to live and profess their own faith freely."

With all the troubles around the world due to wars, economic woes, natural disasters, and religious and ethnic persecutions, there are so many people who are now displaced or are refugees. They need our prayers.

Father, watch over them, protect them, help them to find safety and peace.
