View from the choir

I am a Catholic layperson and Secular Franciscan with a sense of humor. After years in the back pew watching, I have moved into the choir. It's nice to see faces instead of the backs of heads. But I still maintain God has a sense of humor - and that we are created in God's image.

Ha!

Found this over on Happy Catholic. I chuckled.

Spain has legalized gay marriage. I believe Abraham Lincoln had something to say on that subject. What? You don't remember him addressing gay marriage? Well, not specifically. But this bit of wisdom applies quite well to the situation.

If you call a tail a leg, how many legs has a dog? Five? No, calling a tail a leg don’t make it a leg.

- Abraham Lincoln

Yes, one certainly would not want to give homosexuals the same legal rights as heterosexuals; that might seem like social justice. Sure can't have that!

As far as I can see the best answer with this issuse is: the State cannot marry. Marriage is a sacrament and the Church(es) should decide who is eligible. The State should provide Civil Unions (call them what they are) for ALL. Why call it a 'marriage when it's in front of a JOP?

It will never happen, probably because it could de-politicize the whole issue.
