View from the choir

I am a Catholic layperson and Secular Franciscan with a sense of humor. After years in the back pew watching, I have moved into the choir. It's nice to see faces instead of the backs of heads. But I still maintain God has a sense of humor - and that we are created in God's image.

Married Priests: The schism suffers a schism

The schismatic group Married Priest Now!, started by Archbishop Emmanuel Milango back in 2006 when he validly but illicitly ordained four married men as bishops, has apparently suffered its own schism.

The four men he so ordained back in 2006, plus another illicilty ordained man, have now broken with Milango's group and formed one of their own: Married Priests USA.

In a press release, they announced that as of June 15, 2009:

The five bishops of the Married Priests Now! Catholic Prelature hereby withdraw from the Prelature and disassociate themselves from Archbishop Milingo for philosophical and theological differences. Our new organization for Married Priests for the United States will now be called Married Priests USA.

The five involved are Archbishops Peter Brennan (NY), Joseph Gouthro (NV), Patrick Trujillo (NJ), George Stallings (DC), and Bishop Joaquin Perez (FL).

Also involved in Rochester's illicit married priest, Ray Grosswirth, who is going with the schismatic schismatics.

Let's see. Rev. Denise Donato leaves the schismatic Spiritus Christi to start her own little church (though apparently not breaking with Spiritus), now this break-up of the married priests group.

I wonder when there will be more breaks?

And I forgot to mention the break-away Episcopalians' new Anglican denomination in the US!

Just like the Protestants, these "progressive Catholics" are a bunch of frauds.

In the future, I would not be surprised to see Spiritus Christi split into at least 3 different denominations. Once you break once, it's much easier to break a second time, a third time, a fourth time...

God bless that Ray Grosswirth, he is a pro at making himself look like a fool. It appears his buddy Millingo isn't progressive enough for his tastes. He's going to have to become much more progressive if he has any hopes of one day serving Spiritus as assistant pastor to Jesus.

Anon 8 pm -- My sentiments exactly. You said it better than anybody could, with the right touch of sarcasm.

My brother use to go to Corpus Christi, then Spiritus Christi. He is totally disillusioned with the pettiness, in fighting, back-stabbing, the lie call "diversity". He said they DEMAND total and unswerving obedience to their dictates and whoa to you if you don't agree or even offer a different suggestion. You are ostracized, cut off at the knees and disassociated. So much "bovine residue".

What is it that liberal don't get about things, especially church. PBS won't be broadcasting anything religious anymore, not that I would have thought what they said was of any value, maybe minimal value. Like the name of the classic Catholic book, "Liberalism is a Sin" and it sure is.

I remember so well Sister Meinulpha telling our class that one of the signs of the HOly Ghost is peace and harmony in any undertaking. The Holy Ghost doesn't bred chaos or confusion. Just peace.

This sure doesn't sound very peaceful to me. Another sign that this isn't Catholic.

I thank God everyday for the most precious gift of my Catholic faith. The hardest and most difficult thing in the whole world is to be a good Catholic. "Domine, non sum dignus"...Laudetur Jesus Christus!
God Bless!

Um, last I looked you could be both Catholic and liberal. I've even seen what could be described as progressive ideas on this blog.

Lee, theirs is just a three-ring circus where the clowns wearing clerical collars are running all over the place. The show is over. No one cares. They will wither in the vineyard.

Where in creation did these 5 Archbishops come from?

Stallings I remember hearing about years ago. He was a priest in the Archdiocese of Washington. Then he started the Imani African-Catholic Temple. He started molesting boys and then got married to a Sun Yung Moon type. Obviously he was excommunicated, latae sententiae, I should think.

This guys are such Gomers!!! If we googled anyone of these Gomers, I'm sure we'd bust a gut just reading about them.

Here is some info about him:

Ray Grosswirth, if you're reading this blog, WAKE UP!!! You're playing loose with your immortal soul. I'll put you on the top of the rosary list. We probably all should for all the guys..."LADIES and GENTLEMEN...starT YOUR BEADS!!"

I agree about being able to be Catholic and liberal, and you are right, I have stated some progressive ideas (for some of which I have been castigated!).

The focus of this post is people who went beyond just being liberal, and actually going into schism.

I read of the schism on Ray Grosswirth's blog.

Churches without a major affiliation tend to see many schisms. A non-denominational church in my area has seen at least two pastors breakaway from it and form their own churches.

Thanks for posting this.
