View from the choir

I am a Catholic layperson and Secular Franciscan with a sense of humor. After years in the back pew watching, I have moved into the choir. It's nice to see faces instead of the backs of heads. But I still maintain God has a sense of humor - and that we are created in God's image.

Our Lady visits a restaurant?

Visitors to the Las Palmas Restaurant in Calexico, California, are apparently not so much concerned with what's on the menu as with what's on the griddle.

A cook says she saw an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the griddle when it was being cleaned.

People have been flocking to the restaurant since. Even some Mexican wrestlers - in costume - showed up to look. One of them, Mr. Tempest, declared, "This is amazing. It's a true miracle."

It's hard to argue with a muscular man in a mask.

The griddle has been taken out of service and is in a shrine in a storage area.

A shrine in a storage area? Well, Lourdes was in what was basically a catchall spot for garbage and debris.

It's always possible. I believe in miracles, and I certainly don't put limits on God - or Mary.

I wonder if they ever made any grilled cheese sandwiches on that griddle?
